The Akwesasne Cultural Center has been a community effort of concerned Native American people to help themselves preserve their culture and fulfill the educational need of future generations. The Akwesasne Library has a collection of more than 28,000 books which have been selected to provide for both entertainment and educational needs. The Native Collection is one of the largest in Northern New York with over 2,400 volumes. It contains information on Native people throughout the United State and Canada.

MUSEUM

The Akwesasne Cultural Center welcomes you to the Akwesasne Museum. Established in 1972, the Museum acquired a diverse collection of artifacts that represent the continuing cultural heritage of the Akwesasne Mohawks. The largest collection in the Museum is the black ash splint basketry. The collection is representative of the many kinds of baskets, both decorative and functional made by the basketmakers of Akwesasne.

The Akwesasne Cultural Center is situated on the St. Regis Mohawk Indian Reservation. From the South/West, the Library is 8 miles from the traffic light at the St. Lawrence Center Mall in Massena, NY, on the left hand side of Route 37. From the North, cross the International Bridge from Cornwall, Ont. to the U.S. The Library is 3 kilometers East of the traffic circle, on the left hand side of Route 37. From the South/East, the Library is less than a mile from the traffic light in Akwesasne, on the right hand side of Route 37.
