Title: The Code Behind the Program
Level: Intermediate, not for beginners.

Description: A web page editor can be something as simple as the text editor that came with a computer, or it can be something that creates the page right in front of the user as they point and click away. No matter how sophisticated they may be, all web editing programs are built on HTML code and its features and elements.
Knowing how to find and manipulate the HTML code behind these programs will help users understand how the program works, how to change it, and how to edit work. In this class, students will look at the basics of web design and layout through the understanding of the basic XHTML and CSS used by applications such as Dreamweaver and Frontpage.
The topics to be covered in this class will include:
* The basics of XHTML and code behind the layout of all Web Pages
* The basics of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and how they are used to control the layout and design of web pages
* Navigation design
* Use of backgrounds for pages
* Use of typography
* Use of color and graphics on a site
* Setting up the web site (hosting, domain names, etc.)
This class will have students on their way to designing more attractive, functional, and manageable websites for them and their businesses.
Prerequisite - Understanding of basic web design, regardless of program use (Dreamweaver, Frontpage, HTML, etc.) Familiarity with basic web concepts (URLs, hyperlinks, etc.). Basic understanding of file management, either Windows or Mac.

Title: Spring Library Assistants Conference: Education Opportunities

Location: Holiday Inn, Plattsburgh, and Feinberg Library, SUNY Plattsburgh

Description: The spring Library Assistant’s Conference will begin with morning roundtable sessions. These sessions will provide an opportunity for people with similar interests and concerns to gather and exchange information, discuss problems, and offer solutions and suggestions.
Following lunch, Jodi Williams of the University of Maine at Augusta will present information concerning the undergraduate degree programs offered at the university in the field of Library and Information Studies. This will be followed by a panel discussion of educational opportunities available to library assistants.
Finally, the group will disperse and reconvene at Feinberg Library for a tour of that facility.

Title: Trends in Mobile Devices and Applications for Libraries

Description: Students interested in current mobile devices and how the library can use them will find this fast paced workshop essential. Students will get an overview of the current devices on the market and the latest developments in applications for mobile and handheld tools, as well as, mobile searching and mobile multimedia, and how these are being utilized by libraries and information seekers of all kinds.
Following the presentation, participants are invited to stay for a light lunch and continued discussion of the uses of mobile devices.

Description: Robert Karen, Director of Member Services, will present the Spring update with highlights of recent additions and changes to the WALDO portfolio of online databases and services. The update will include highlights of several new vendors contracts (Lexis Nexis, Cambridge University Press, LibLime) as well as an update on our development of an Open Source ILS system. A presentation from ProQuest will follow the WALDO update.

Title: Adobe Acrobat: PDF Files

Description: This day long class will explore the ins and outs of the PDF. Students will turn their documents into PDFs that anyone, anywhere can read, looking exactly like they meant it to appear. Students will also learn how to fill PDFs in digitally, signing them and making them as useful and friendly as possible. This class covers a number of aspects of creating and manipulating PDF files. Students will learn to access information in PDF files, including browsing tools for PDF documents, navigation to specific content within a PDF document, and finding and editing text. Students will create PDF documents using content from multiple sources, and will learn to create documents with enhanced navigation.
