Collection: Founded November 15, 1972, the society represents the northern Oswego County towns of Albion, Amboy, Boylston, Orwell, Parish, Redfield, Richland, Sandy Creek and Williamstown. The Oneida County township of Florence, and Lewis County township of Osceola. The group is headquartered (since 1974) in the former Richland school, a two story brick structure built in 1926. The society museum has been undergoing extensive second floor renovations. The Pulaski Lions Club occupies one of the four former classrooms upstairs. Two other rooms are being refitted for domestic arts and school exhibits; the fourth room will again feature agriculture and logging exhibits. The library holds a large collection of genealogical material on the region with a large emphasis on Redfield families. The first floor auditorium can seat over 100 comfortably and is available for rental. The fully modernized kitchen was renovated in 2004 and is open to the hall by a new serving counter. Rest rooms are in the entry level (M & F). Half-Shire has coordinated the Heritage Building Exhibit at the Oswego County Fair for over 10 years. Membership: $12 a year, $25 supporting, and $250 life. A 12-page newsletter is issued three-four times a year. Sizable list of publications on local history.
Restrictions: Some Xeroxed reference material may be loaned out. Only the entryway and restrooms are handicapped accessible.

Collection: Preserving 400 years of Oswego maritime history. The collection contains paintings, artifacts, documents, and ship models. Among the paintings are the epic oils done by the distinguished artist George Gray highlighting the story of Fort Ontario. The museum features the 1925 NYS Canal Derrick Boat No. 8, the last steam- powered vessel on the Barge Canal. Also the WW II tug, "LT-5," a National Historical Landmark that participated in the Normandy Invasion. The last U.S. commercial fishing boat, the Eleanor D., worked Lake Ontario, has been acquired by the museum. The Treasure Chest gift shop is open regular museum hours.
