called "Don't read THESE books!"
We'll hear stories by Maurice Sendak, William Steig, Shel Silverstein,
and even classic Dr. Seuss. There will be feltboard stories, movement
rhymes and songs, followed by a bookworm book mark craft. The program
begins at 10:30 on Wednesday morning, October 1st, and all area
3-5 year olds, accompanied by a caregiver, are invited to attend.
No registration is required for this popular 45-minute program.
BANNED BOOKS
WEEK IS
CHALKED
UP FOR TEENS
Canton area teens are celebrating
2008 Banned Books Week in a very unique
way. On Monday, they decorated the library’s sidewalk, using
sidewalk chalk, with the titles of this year’s banned and
challenged books and will add more titles on October 1st from 3-5
pm. Snacks, donated by Rite Aid (thank you!), will help fuel their
discussion of censorship. On October 2nd we will watch the movie
Equilibrium, starring Christian Bale. Kids 12 to 18 are
encouraged to join this vibrant group of young library users. They
are really having a lot of fun!
READ TO A DOG!
stars Shadow and Pugsley
are enjoying the time they spend listening to children of all ages
read to them. Call or visit to reserve a time slot between 3-5 pm
on any of the following days: October 9th and 23rd; November 6th
and 20th; December 4th and 18th. The program continues to grow in
popularity!
BOOKED & WIRED FOR TEENS
Booked & Wired
is held every Monday from 3-5 pm. Watch a movie, share games, join
our fan-fic Studio, or just hang out. Anyone attending under the
age of 13 is required to have written permission from a parent/guardian.
Stay tuned for Twilight Tournament
details and get ready for our first round of Wii games!
WARM
HEART OF AFRICA
Canton Free Library invites the public to hear Linda Potter, Ellen
Grayson, Vicki McLain, and Katrina Hebb discuss their recent church-sponsored
journey to the African country of Malawi, known as the Warm Heart
of Africa. The multimedia presentation takes place at noon on Tuesday,
September 30th, in the library’s Paige Room. Guests
may bring a brown bag lunch and beverage to the event. The women
have many stories to share about their work with Malawan widows.
There will be displays
of cloths, pottery, jewelry and more as well as time
for questions. For more information, contact Lyn Swafford at 386-3712.
DROP –IN SATURDAY
STORYTIME
Volunteer readers from Canton’s SeaComm Federal Credit Union
read to preschoolers through early elementary children and at least
one caregiver in the Children’s Room on October 4th
at 10:30 am. The program gives families that aren’t
able to attend weekday storytimes an opportunity to enjoy library
time together.
REMINGTON

among the thirty titles chosen for the 2009 Battle of the Books
competition. They’re on display in the Ann L. Richardson Children’s
Room.
