The Hawn Memorial Library presents its special program
THE ARTS ALLIANCE

The Hawn Memorial Library Arts Alliance was founded
in 2007 to identify existing artists, to encourage the inactive artist,
and to teach those individuals who had interest but no experience,
and to promote the fine arts within the River Community.
Based in Clayton, N.Y., a small village situated along the majestic
St.Lawrence River, a few artists first combined their talents when they
gathered at the Paynter Senior Center.
From it’s humble beginnings, with this common goal, interest grew
from a dozen individuals to over 70 existing members within the first two
years.
The HML Arts Alliance has successfully maintained an
active membership. With
growth, the need for more suitable quarters led them to the basement room
of the Library, where they began to offer free classes in Watercolor
Painting, Basic Drawing Skills, and Sketching to the public.
They continue to expand and now occupy additional space in the
Thousand Islands Land Trust office building.
There, they have added instruction in oil painting to interested
individuals.
The HML Arts Alliance welcomes persons of all ages
and talent, who may have or may want to explore their own gifts in any
medium in the fine arts. In
addition to the classes, artists are encouraged to show their work in the
Library display and at other locations around the area. In 2008, members
of the high school art classes participated in an art challenge and their
art continues to beautify the Youth Room in the Library located at 220
John Street.
Scholarships have been established for high school
seniors from the Arts Alliance, and a beautification project along
Riverside Drive, a large painted mural, grew out of the Alliance, bringing
new awareness of the organization. Many
new facets, spin offs and events continue to evolve, encouraging each of
us to put our talents to good use. Join
the HML Arts Alliance……. Membership
is free….. share the joy and help support this positive outlet.
